Did.  of the upcoming Digital India Act.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"otherDiv\">\n<p>Affirming the government&#8217;s intention to provide safer, more empowered access to the Internet, Chandrasekhar said the existing IT regulations do not fully cover all security concerns, especially those related to &#8220;illegal, criminal and child sexual abuse material&#8221;. For this, the new Act will have certain provisions that are expected to make Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and other intermediaries accountable.<\/p>\n<p>He also touched on the issue of anonymity on the Internet, noting that criminals cannot hide behind the mask of online anonymity.  ,<em>Even if a person is anonymous, intermediaries must disclose the originator of such material.  Internet which was once seen as a tool for empowerment of people has now turned into an ecosystem that thrives on criminality and illegality which is at an all time high<\/em>,&#8221; He added.<\/p>\n<p>No timeline was given for the &#8220;Digital Technology Law&#8221; as to when it would be introduced in Parliament.  A few weeks ago, the minister spoke of the upcoming Digital India Act as being more principle-based than the current law of the country.  He also mentioned that the regulations would enable a more &#8220;vibrant&#8221; startup ecosystem on the Internet.  At present, apart from this, no other details on the Act were revealed by the minister considering that something of this nature is still a work in progress and is subject to multiple amendments from various stakeholders.<\/p>\n<p>To recall, in January this year, a new proposal by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) required online gamers to submit Know Your Customer (KYC) documents to the platform they were to play on.
