Twin tunnels of 520 meters each, 13 meters below the river bed, connect Mahakaran (BBD Bagh) on the east bank of the Hooghly to Howrah station on the west bank.  Howrah station is the deepest metro station in India at 33 meters below the surface.<\/p>\n<p>With the completion of a five-minute, metro train journey under the river, Kolkata joins cities such as London, Paris, New York, Shanghai and Cairo, which have trains running under the rivers Thames, Seine, Hudson, Huangpu, etc.  and Neil, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Later, another metro train also made the same journey.
