The telco believes that this pack offers flexibility and better value. The plan comes with unlimited calls, 300 SMS, and 1GB data for 24 days. Meanwhile, Rs 99 offers just 200MB data and calls at 2.5 paise per minute for 28 days. Significantly, the trial of the Rs 155 pack was started in November 2022.

Apart from these benefits, Airtel’s Rs 155 plan also offers free Wynk Music and Hellotunes benefits. As mentioned, the trial was launched in Haryana and Odisha last November and only five per cent customers in both the circles are using Airtel services.
Separately, brokerage firm Morgan Stanley expects Airtel to bring the Rs 155 plan in all circles in the coming months. But it is said that the schemes will not make any significant difference to its revenue. The firm also notes that Airtel’s revenue could grow by 1.3-1.5 per cent. Interestingly, another brokerage firm, Goldman Sachs believes that telecom networks in India may increase tariffs in the middle of this year.
Telecom tariffs may increase in India
Both Airtel and Jio are investing heavily in 5G network deployment and are reportedly planning to increase their recharge pack plans. However, Jio cannot follow this as it is losing its active user base every month. Airtel, on the other hand, may remain unaffected by the price hike.
As per a report in ET, Airtel added 0.1 million and 0.2 million active users in Haryana and Odisha circles in December 2022. This is an indication that the number of customers of Airtel is increasing. The report states that Reliance Jio’s active user base increased by 3 million in December, while Airtel has managed to add 6 million during the same period.
Currently, Airtel has 365 million users, while Jio has 391 million customers in the country. Vodafone-Idea is also planning to introduce a similar plan for its customers as it too is losing customers and revenue every quarter. The telco lost 2.47 million users in December.
