The handset brings competition in the mid-range smartphone segment with a price tag of under Rs 20,000 in India. The Redmi Note 12 5G is a popular choice among the Indian audience in this range. Moto G73 vs Redmi Note 12 5G: Price and availability
The Redmi Note 12 5G (Review) sells in India for Rs 17,999 for the base 4GB RAM and 128GB storage model, while the 6GB RAM and 128GB storage variant costs Rs 19,999. In contrast, the Moto G73 5G comes with a price tag of Rs 18,999 for the sole 8GB RAM and 256GB storage option. That said, the handset can be bought at a discounted price of Rs 16,999 under its introductory offer.
The Redmi Note 12 5G is already available for sale in India, while the Moto G73 will go on sale starting March 16. Online and offline stores.

design
The design of the vanilla Note 12 5G is similar to that of its bigger sibling, the Note 12 Pro 5G. Redmi built the Note 12 5G with polycarbonate glass at the back and a Corning Gorilla Glass 3-protected display, sandwiching its plastic chassis. The curved rear panel houses a glossy square island that houses a triple camera setup and an LED flash. It is available in three colours: Frosted Green, Matte Black and Mystic Blue.

The device is slim, with a 165.9×76.2×8mm overall footprint, and is light – tipping the scales at 188g. The Redmi Note 12 5G has an IP53 water and dust rating and should offer some protection against splashes of water. It has a side-mounted fingerprint reader, which sits below the volume rocker on the right side for security.
If you’ve ever owned a Motorola smartphone, the Moto G73 should feel like home. It flaunts the typical Motorola design made of plastic. Like the Redmi Note 12 5G, the Moto G73 features a curved rear panel with a simple design keeping in mind the aesthetics of the device minimalist, The back panel features a shiny square bump with dual-camera setup and LED flash. The Moto G73 comes in Lucent White and Midnight Blue colourways.

The smartphone measures 161.4×73.8×8.3mm and weighs 181 grams, making it thinner and lighter than the Note 12 5G. That said, the Moto G73 has an IP52 rating — one level below the Note 12 5G — which the company claims is water-repellent. It has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, which is located below the volume buttons on the right fascia.

The Redmi Note 12 5G has a slightly better display configuration than the Moto G73. You get a 6.67-inch AMOLED panel that supports 120Hz high refresh rate, 1200 nits peak brightness, 2400×1080 pixels FHD+ resolution, and 395PPI. During our testing, we found the Note 12 5G’s display’s sunlight legibility and color gamut and viewing angles to be remarkable. It has a centre-aligned punch-hole cutout at the top for the front-facing snapper and flaunts thin bezels apart from a thick bottomed chin.

On the other hand, the Moto G73 sports a 6.5-inch IPS LCD panel that supports 120Hz high refresh rate, 2400×1080 pixels FHD+ resolution, and 405PPI. Unfortunately, it lacks performance protection. The device features thin bezels apart from a centre-aligned punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera and a thick chin at the bottom. Display
While we are yet to test the waters of the Moto G73, the device packs a better hardware configuration than the Note 12 5G and should – at least on paper – offer better performance between them. It draws power from MediaTek Dimensity 930 SoC built on 6nm process and has IMG BXM-8-256 GPU, 8GB RAM and 256GB storage.

Redmi Note 12 5G has been launched with Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 SoC, which is made on 6nm process. It comes with Adreno 618 GPU, 4GB/6GB RAM and 128GB storage. With this loadout, the Note 12 scored 366,146 points in the AnTuTu benchmark test, and 635 and 1,991 points in Geekbench’s single-core and multi-core tests, respectively. The Redmi Note 12 5G lags slightly behind the Moto G73 in benchmark results. Both the devices have a microSD card slot for additional storage.
Battery and Charging
The Redmi Note 12 5G houses a massive 5,000mAh battery that supports 33W fast charging. The smartphone should last you a whole day on a single charge. The handset scored 16 hours 21 minutes in PCMark’s battery benchmarking test. With the 33W charger, the Redmi Note 12 5G takes a little over an hour to refuel the device from 0-100 percent.

The Moto G73 5G packs a massive 5,000mAh battery, so you can get through a whole day of continuous use. While on paper its 30W TurboPower charging is slightly slower than the 33W charging speed of the Redmi Note 12 5G. However, there shouldn’t be a difference of day and night in the 3W variation.
camera
The Redmi Note 12 5G offers a better camera configuration than the Moto G73. You get a triple rear camera setup with the Note 12 5G vs a dual rear camera setup with the Moto G73. However, the Redmi Note 12 5G uses a 48MP primary shooter, while the Moto G73 comes equipped with a 50MP primary sensor. Both the smartphones can capture video at 1080p resolution, but the Moto G73 can do it at 60 fps, while the Note 12 5G can max out at 30fps.

Apart from the 48MP snapper, you get an 8MP ultrawide lens and a 2MP macro sensor with the Redmi Note 12 5G. On the other hand, the Moto G73 has an additional 8MP ultrawide lens. The Redmi Note 12 5G sports a 13MP front-facing snapper, while the Moto G73 has a better 16MP shooter for selfies and video calls.

software
While both the smartphones broke cover recently, only the Moto G73 ships with the latest Android 13 OS out of the box, as the Redmi Note 12 5G runs on the older Android 12 OS. Although the Moto G73 has MyUX flavoring on top, it offers a stock Android experience with strong Material UI aspects in the UI. You get Moto Secure to store important documents safely. With the Note 12 5G, Redmi delivers its MIUI 13 custom skin with Xiaomi-centric styling on top of the Android 12 OS.

Motorola has promised three years of security patches and one major Android update for the Moto G73. Meanwhile, the Redmi Note 12 5G will get two Android software updates and four years of security patches. This means that both the G73 and Note 12 5G will get Android updates up to Android 14, but the Note 12 5G will get an additional year of security updates compared to the G73.
