Samsung has officially unveiled the Galaxy S23 series during the Unpacked event on 1 February. The lineup includes the vanilla Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus, and Galaxy S23 Ultra. Along with pricing details, all three will go up against the iPhone 14 series where the base iPhone 14 could rival the Galaxy S23 when the latter goes on sale on February 17.

Samsung Galaxy S23 vs Apple iPhone 14: Price in India

Starting with the pricing of both the smartphones, the Samsung Galaxy S23 is priced at Rs 74,999 for the 8GB + 128GB variant and Rs 79,999 for the 8GB + 256GB storage option.

On the other hand, Apple’s iPhone 14 was launched in India in September 2022 at Rs 79,990 for the 128GB model, Rs 89,900 for the 256GB variant and Rs 1,09,900 for the 512GB storage.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 features a slightly redesigned design compared to its previous iterations. There are three different lenses for each camera along with an LED flash right next to the main camera. Talking about the aluminum frame, the power button along with the volume rockers are placed on the right side along with the speaker and USB-C port at the bottom. Samsung has gone for eco-friendly manufacturing this time as the S23 has been crafted using recycled glass and ocean-bound plastic materials. The front is protected using Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

In terms of width, the Apple iPhone 14 is slightly narrower than the Galaxy S23. It houses the rear cameras in a diagonal layout with the microphone and LED flash placed at the corners of the camera module. In addition to the volume buttons and power button on the left and right sides of the frame respectively, the iPhone 14 also features a dedicated mute switch that allows users to easily silence their iPhone by flipping the switch. To protect the display, Apple uses a Ceramic Shield glass, which is claimed to be one of the toughest glasses in a smartphone.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 flaunts a 6.1-inch FHD+ Flat Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with 48Hz – 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, 1750 nits peak brightness, and HDR support. As for the iPhone 14, it also has a 6.1-inch screen size but comes with Apple’s Super Retina XDR OLED display with a standard 60Hz refresh rate. Other key features of the display include Dolby Vision, HDR10, and 1200 nits peak brightness support.

At the top, the Galaxy S23 has a centrally aligned punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera, while the iPhone 14 features multiple sensors and a front camera housed within a notch, which was also found on the iPhone 13 series. Also, despite both the phones having OLED display technology, only the Galaxy S23 supports Always On Display.

In terms of performance, both the Samsung Galaxy S23 and the Apple iPhone 14 are equipped with decent processing power, which enables users to play graphic intensive games, render high-resolution videos, and quickly switch between multiple apps. Coming to the actual specifications, the Galaxy S23 is powered by a dedicated 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset specially built for the Galaxy S23 series, while the iPhone 14 runs on the A15 Bionic built on the 5nm manufacturing process. Both the chipsets are 5G-enabled and use multiple 5G bands for seamless connectivity.

As for the storage options, the Galaxy S23 comes in 8GB RAM + 128GB ROM and 8GB RAM + 256GB ROM variants. The iPhone 14 is offered in three different storage options with 6GB RAM + 128GB ROM, 6GB RAM + 256GB ROM, and 6GB RAM + 512GB ROM.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 packs a 50MP primary sensor with OIS and Dual Pixel PDAF, a 12MP ultra-wide angle lens, and a 10MP telephoto camera that offers 3x optical zoom and up to 30x digital zoom. Samsung has made several improvements to the night shots this time around including an advanced AI system that delivers clear, bright and vibrant images and videos. Selfies on the Galaxy S23 are captured by the 12MP front camera that is also capable of shooting videos in up to 4K resolution at 60FPS.

Coming to the cameras on the Apple iPhone 14, it packs a dual rear camera setup that houses a 12MP main shooter with sensor-shift OIS and a 12MP ultra-wide angle lens. Thanks to the prowess of the A15 Bionic, the smartphone is capable of capturing Dolby Vision HDR videos at up to 60FPS. Selfies are taken care of by a 12MP front unit, which is also capable of recording 4K videos, just like the Galaxy S23.

Battery

The Samsung Galaxy S23 draws power from a 3,900mAh battery, while the iPhone 14 packs in a 3,279mAh unit with up to 15W wireless charging support via MagSafe. The Galaxy S23 can be charged wirelessly at 10W via any Qi-compatible wireless charger. It can provide power to other devices via reverse wireless charging, which the iPhone 14 does not have. Adapter does not come with any of the handsets in the box.
