Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra durability test and teardown video shows promising results

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra durability test

PBKreviews’ durability test of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra begins with a three-minute long water dip test which the device passes without any apparent issues. device surfaces, which are covered with the latest The Victus 2’s Gorilla Glass, then, is subject to scratches from a bunch of keys and coins, items that cause regular wear and tear on a daily basis. The manufacturer then goes ahead and uses Mohs Mineral Picks, which scratch glass surfaces at levels eight and nine. The same is observed with the glass covering the camera lens. The results obtained by PBKreviews are similar to those of producer JerryRigEverything.

However, JerryRigEverything goes the extra mile to test the durability of the metal frame sandwiched between the front and rear glass panels. Paint flake off when intentionally cut, and metal buttons come off with a lot of pressure. The display panel was subjected to a flame just above the panel for a full minute which then went out completely.

Coming back to PBKreviews’ video, the Galaxy S23 Ultra has been subjected to face-first and back-first drop tests from waist height. Both of these tests shatter the glass panel covering the panel but keep the display and internals well protected. The drop test also reveals slightly better protection for the camera module. The YouTuber compares this to the performance of the Galaxy S22 Ultra, whose design failed to protect the camera glass from shattering. The device is then dropped first which takes out the built-in S Pen but keeps the device powered on.

PBKreviews has also broken down the Galaxy S23 Ultra and a quick look at the internals reveals some key details. Samsung has included some extra pull tabs this year that make battery replacement easier and the company has added extra length to mark cables and pull tabs that make repairs easier.
