Hyundai Creta EV spotted testing in Chennai

Hyundai’s upcoming Creta EV SUV has been spied testing in Chennai. The prototype is based on the outgoing model and can be identified as an EV courtesy the silver battery pack visible under the body. The vehicle was also spotted near an EV charging station which confirms the new powertrain option for the Creta. The Creta EV may test the new battery pack on the existing Hyundai-Kia K platform. The platform is currently serving in the ICE-powered Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos in the global markets. Hyundai-Kia may revisit the same platform in the future to introduce a hybrid solution for the popular SUV.
The Hyundai Creta EV was earlier in the works and is expected to debut in 2025. This project is code-named SU2i EV, and could be previewed at the Auto Expo 2025 for the first time. Series production of the Creta EV is expected to begin in late 2024.
However, it is not clear on which platform the new Creta EV will be based. The specifications and details of the underlying hardware are also under wraps as of now. However, it is speculated that the next-generation model of the Creta EV is likely to debut. The new Creta EV may also introduce a Kia alternative with similar specifications and may be referred to as the Kia Seltos EV. The Creta EV will rival the upcoming Maruti Suzuki eVX EV SUV, which is also expected to launch in 2025.
