No Xiaomi 13S series this year, but the Xiaomi 13 Ultra is coming with a massive camera module

Separately, Xiaomi 13 Ultra alleged back case images have been leaked online, showing off the large circular camera island. This leak is in line with an alleged sketch of the device as well as alleged live hands-on images that leaked in China last week.

Xiaomi 13S Series Canceled

The news comes amidst the global debut of the Xiaomi 13 series which is set to take place on February 26 at the MWC 2023 show. The top executive confirmed on Weibo that Xiaomi will skip the half-yearly update and advised fans not to wait for the Xiaomi 13S model.

The reason for the cancellation is still unclear but we can guess that last year, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen1 faced power and thermal issues and due to this, the brand introduced the TSMC-manufactured Xiaomi 12S series. Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. It offered comparatively better performance and battery life.

Xiaomi 13 Ultra Case

The leaked Xiaomi 13 Ultra case image shows that the phone has a large circular module at the back, which could house at least four cameras, laser autofocus, LED flash, and other cutouts. This is not surprising as the predecessor is also a big phone. Xiaomi 13 Ultra is rumored to launch in China in March or April. The main focus of the phone could be the cameras. There are chances that the phone may retain the 1-inch main sensor and add gimbal stabilization. All the four cameras at the back could have autofocus support and there would also be a dToF (direct time-of-flight) sensor.
