This asteroid has a 1 in 400 chance of hitting Earth on Valentine’s Day in 2046

While millions of asteroids are in our Solar System, a small fraction are known to potentially impact Earth. However, scientists found a new one that may be one of the most significant risks of them all.

First discovered on February 26, the asteroid, known as 2023 DW, has a diameter of 50 meters, roughly the size of an Olympic swimming pool, and is set to collide with Earth on Valentine’s Day, 23 years from now. There is a “small chance”. European Space Agency.

1 spot on the agency’s risk list, a list of space objects that could potentially affect Earth. However, that doesn’t mean you should pack your bags, hop on a spaceship and settle down on the Moon.

NASA’s Planetary Defense Coordination Agency has been tracking the asteroid for some time and says that the chances of it hitting Earth in 2046 are still very small. And the ESA predicts that the asteroid has a 1-607 chance of hitting Earth.

This asteroid has nothing to worry about, as it won’t jeopardize your Valentine’s Day plans 23 years from now. Since NASA is actively monitoring the space body, expect to hear more predictions of the 2023 DW asteroid in the future.
