The trend of releasing films on OTT platforms after their theatrical release or directly on OTT platforms mostly started after the pandemic. An important reason for such trend was the low box office collection. This left the filmmakers with no option but to release the film on an OTT platform to recover as much loss as possible. However, the said trend is now on the wane as both Hrithik Roshan’s Vikram Vedha and Varun Dhawan’s Bediya are yet to release on any OTT platform, even after their theatrical releases 19 and 11 weeks ago respectively .
A source revealed the reason to Bollywood Hungama. According to sources, both the films will stream on a new app Reliance Jio. “The idea is not just premiere VIkram Vedha and Bhediya but also many other movies. As per the plan, one film will premiere every week. While some of these are theatrical releases, some of them will get a direct OTT release. It is expected that the list of all these movies will be unveiled at the time of the launch of the app.
Vikram Vedha received positive reviews, starring Saif Ali Khan as SSP Vikram and Hrithik Roshan as Vedha Betal, both in lead roles. It also featured Radhika Apte, Rohit Saraf and Yogita Bihani in the cast. The film depicts the story of an honest police officer and his journey to track down and kill a dreaded gangster. Bhediya, on the other hand, also opened to positive reviews and starred Varun Dhawan in the lead role alongside Bhaskar Sharma along with other renowned actors like Kriti Sanon, Abhishek Banerjee and Saurabh Shukla.
As per our earlier reported story, Pushkar-Gayatri-Directed Vikram Vedha was expected to release on Jio Cinema or Voot Select. Stay tuned to know the updates on the OTT release of both the films.
