According to officials, the complainant, who has been identified as Vikas Katiyar, lives in Delhi’s Ghitorni area. The complainant Katiyar told the police that a few days back, he visited an Instagram page where he found iPhones being sold at a huge discount and was tempted to make a purchase.
The complainant said, “After checking the page and to ensure that the page is genuine, he also contacted old buyers from another Instagram page and they confirmed that the page is genuine, they received the phone without any issues.” Later on on February 6, 2023, Katiyar called on a particular mobile number to buy the iPhone.”.
According to Katiyar, this group of persons demanded an advance payment of 30 per cent of the cost of the phone, or Rs. 28,000. After that, his team contacted him through various mobile numbers and demanded additional money for clearance of customs duty and other taxes.
As per the victim’s complaint, he transferred a total of Rs 28,69,850 to several different accounts, believing that everything would be resolved and he would receive the said iPhones.
Vikas also claimed that they are still demanding payment for resolving his dispute and sending the phone along with the refund. The matter is currently the subject of additional investigation and an FIR has been registered by the Delhi Police at Cyber Police Station, South West District.
