Akshay Mundra, chief financial officer of Vodafone-Idea Ltd., recently said that Vi 5G will “transform customer experience and drive business performance,” but did not give a specific timeline regarding the rollout. Even now, Vi is yet to reveal any details regarding the public rollout of its 5G services. Meanwhile, its rivals, such as Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio, are aggressively rolling out 5G services across the country.
The news comes just days after the Center approved the conversion of Rs 16,000 crore of accumulated interest dues to Vodafone Idea into equity. Thereafter, the central government acquired 33 per cent stake in the telecom joint venture between Kumar Mangalam Birla’s Aditya Birla Group and UK’s Vodafone, becoming the largest shareholder.
