Survivor will be much more of a game than its predecessor

It hasn’t been long since Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was released to the general public, but with new gameplay footage shown a while ago and a new story trailer to boot, we have a lot more information about the game. and what to expect from the new gameplay. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is one of the biggest games coming out this year and from what we’ve seen, it looks like it’s better than its predecessor in every way. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order always seemed like a game with infinite potential, a title with some great ideas, executed well, but plenty of room for even more great ideas in a really interesting setting. Survivor looks to be living up to this promise, with a new host of upgrades and new gameplay mechanics.

Here are some of the new things you can expect from Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, based on a blog post by O’Dell Harmon Jr., Content Communications Specialist, SIE after some hands-on time with the game.

New Sabre, who dis?

I know everyone is guilty of the cliché of comparing the game to Dark Souls. But with its focus on dodging and combat in combat and using the Meditation Spot to rest and respawn on enemies, Fallen Order definitely had a Soulsborn DNA. Survivor seems to have taken the really crisp combat of its predecessor and kicked it up a notch with five different stances or combat approaches that you can try out. Luke Skywalker’s single-blade option is the “all-rounder” stance. If you need something sharp for crowd control, you can try a double-bladed lightsaber and fulfill your Darth Maul fantasy. And then there’s a fast, slick double stance like Ashoka Tano’s that feels really fluid and intense. And new to the series is the cross-guard stance. You use a Kylo Ren-style saber that feels like a great sword in combat. And finally, there’s the Explosive Stance for ranged attacks. All of these stances look very exciting and feel like players can either mix them up for different scenarios or master one or two and use them for most of their play.

forcing the issue

In addition to these battle modes, there are also some new force abilities that you can use to make combat more exciting and varied. There is Force Confusion which will turn enemies against him and Tame which will allow Cal to mount different animals, making traversal faster and more fun. And of course, the amazing slow down ability, which now slows down time for everything around Cal while he goes ham with his lightsaber. Admittedly it’s a bit OP, so they put it on a timer, making it a get out of jail free card.

at the speed of light

There are many more options for traversal in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. We’ve already mentioned how Cal can now tame certain animals to help him move around different planets. These mounts also have specific mechanics such as double jumping or gliding which can be used to reach areas that were otherwise inaccessible. As for Cal himself, he can now slide down walls using a lightsaber to descend. He also now has a grapple with a swing feature to reach spaces horizontally. There’s also fast travel between meditation points, something we really needed in Fallen Order where we had to go back to our ship every time we completed a mission. The maps have also been updated to improve exploration.

in a galaxy far, far away

While the previous game only had a few locations, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has expanded on the universe with new locations such as the base planet of Koboh or other planets in the Star Wars universe such as Coruscant. Koboh, as well as being Cal’s base of operations, is also a place for merchants and other NPCs to interact with. There’s also a base building system where Cal can increase production and make some credits out of it. There are also several different worlds to explore, each with their own unique environmental features.

wipe?

Customization is another place where the folks at Respawn have made major changes. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor finally has the option for us to make Cal just how we like him. You can also change his hairstyle and beard. And unlike previous games where we had different ponchos for clothing options, Survivor has a good range of jackets and trousers. You can even customize the BD-1 to your favorite companion, giving it different eyes, legs, and antennae, as well as multiple color options.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is one of this year’s most anticipated titles and a lot of that has to do with the success of its predecessor. But with all the information and gameplay footage coming out, we can be reasonably sure that Survivor will be a lot more game than Fallen Order, and you won’t hear any of us complaining about that.
